Calendar
To start the year afresh we have Melobo with their distinctive and mellifluous blend of melodeon and oboe. Based in Wantage, the band has made a name for itself playing Wallingford BunkFest, White Horse Ceilidhs and Folk Festival and Red Fox Ceilidhs in Leicester. Drawing on musical influences from the baroque to rock, their tunes are characterised by an irresistible danciness. The usual trio line-up of Graham Hubbard (melodeon and fiddle), Charlotte Pascoe (oboe and recorder) and Howard Hill (bass and tenor guitars) is augmented by drummer Adam Courthold (also of Ceilidhography).
Barry Goodman introduces highly entertaining caller Phill Moxley, who has come to prominence with ceilidh band Threepenny Bit. The unmistakable and striking border morris side, Armaleggan, join us from just up the road at Cumnor. It’s great to have them back to dance during the interval.
Doors open at 7.30pm, and tickets can be bought on the door at £10 for adults and £7 for concessions, with special deals for students, families and groups. You can find Kennington Village Hall, opposite The Tandem pub, on Kennington Road, Kennington, OX1 5PG. The no 35 bus stops yards away and car parking is available.
