Music theory for folkies @ Blackwell's - Oxford Folk Festival
Saturday 20 April 2024, 17:15

Music theory for folkies: an illustrated talk by Justin Greenhalgh (of Rose hips, Cornucopia, Greengage . . .). Muddled about modal tunes? Scared of scales? Ever wondered why some chords work and some just don’t? What is a relative minor? (hint: not the same as a minor relative). I never got much from the music theory I was taught as a child, but I’ve been fascinated ever since, and slowly made sense of it. I now regularly arrange tunes for various bands I play in. Join me (and any band members I can rope in) for simple answers to all the questions you were afraid to ask! This will be a mix of talking and playing, so I hope to feed the ears as well as the brain.

Location Blackwells Upper Room, 48-51 Broad Street Oxford, OX1 1PE
