Tandem Festival and Ethno England present "Musical Leadership & Facilitation Training - Learning from Ethno"

JMI’s ‘Ethno World’ project brings together musicians from different countries, cultures and musical backgrounds to exchange, collaborate and learn from each other. The project runs worldwide in more than 18 countries, and offers collaborative, diverse and international musical experiences which champion cross-cultural friendship and respect.

Join three graduates of JM France’s ‘Ethnofonik’ program in a day-long workshop that will explore how the Ethno pedagogical model of building excellent group dynamic, learning by ear and working peer-to-peer can create lasting and useful outcomes in a wide range of musical groups.

This workshop is ideally suited to musicians with some experience of musical workshop facilitation or those looking to expand their practice and gain knowledge of a dynamic approach used successfully in projects across the world from India to Brazil!

The day will involve participatory workshops, role playing, and group discussions, and we will put together a short performance to finish the session.

Content will cover:

- Identifying and improving specific knowledge, skills and attitudes needed in musical facilitation of multicultural and mixed ability groups.

- Exploring issues arising from working with mixed ability and multicultural workshop groups, and methods for overcoming these issues.

- Understanding the relevance of this method of facilitation to encourage active participation of musicians of mixed ability, to foster their will and capacity to meet and interact with diverse groups of musicians.

- An introduction to group theory in the context of creative workshops.

- Reflecting and sharing of previous coaching experiences of diverse music groups.

- Putting tools and methods into practice in real workshop situations.
