May Morning 2014

There will be lots of folky activity around Oxfordshire on 1st May - here are a few of the usual happenings that we know about, but if you have any other information you'd like added to this page please do get in touch!

Oxford City Morris Men and Oxford University Morris Men will be processing with Jack in the Green from Magdalene Bridge after the choir has sung, joined bya number of guest sides.

Dancing proper starts in Radcliffe Square, below the tower of St Mary the Virgin at about 6.10 a.m. Once the musicians are defeated by the bells of St Mary’s the sides will move on to Hertford College (below the Bridge of Sighs) and Broad Street, by the White Horse. At around 7.30 a.m. the dancing moves on to the forecourt of St John’s College, in St Giles, and will
continue until around 8.30 a.m., in time for breakfast in St Edmund Hall at about 8.45am. There will be dancing in the area outside the Hall following breakfast. Guest sides are then welcome to avail themselves of the facilities of the City Centre and then join the City and University sides again for lunchtime dancing in North Parade. There is usually a sing-song in the back room of the Rose & Crown after the dancing.

Icknield Way Morris Men will head back to Wantage to dance in the Market Square at midday, and will then retire to the Abingdon Arms for a music session.

Mason's Apron are usually out in Oxford in the morning, often dancing at Hertford College Bridge and then on Broad Street.

Sharp and Blunt dance around Adderbury during the day.

Headington Quarry will be celebrating May morning at Aristotle Bridge in Jericho, joined by Eynsham Morris.

Eynsham will be making a day of it, heading off round the Cotswolds in a transit van to entertain the masses at various locations!

Owlswick Morris will be dancing the sun up at the Rollright Stones and then touring around the Cotswolds.

Armaleggan are up Cumnor Hurst at 4.30am to dance the sun up, and will then be touring around Botley and Oxford later in the day.
