The Vale Islanders are a group of dancers and musicians who perform English country dances of the Seventeenth Century in the costume of the period.

The group started in the village of Charney Basset in the Autumn of 1995 and they gave their first public performance on May Day 1996 on the village green. The name reflects their roots in the island villages of the Vale of White Horse and the dancing aims to reflect the dances of the ordinary people of the Vale 350 years ago.

We meet on Tuesday evenings in Charney Village Hall, Chapel Ln, Charney Bassett, Wantage OX12 0EX outside of Grove/Wantage in Charney Bassett.
Sessions run 8pm-9.30pm though end time is a bit flexible and we sometimes go to the pub afterwards.

We dance 17th century Playford dances and dance out in 17th century middle class attire.
