Topette!! - afternoon tea dance / bal at Kennington Village Centre - Sun 8th Sep, 4pm

Born out of friendship, the five-piece play naturally social music – for filling dancefloors, for listening, for drinking with friends – but don’t expect it to merge into the background. This is raunchy, up-all-night, joyously jugular-grabbing dance music.

Driven by the rhythmic boiler-room of Stradling’s gnarly bass, Buisse’s intuitive bodhrán playing and Cutting’s warm bottom end, the melodies burst out of the seams of this bedrock. With great big anthemic walls of sound, the vibe is ‘Party!’: Cartonnet’s glowing French piping and visceral tenor banjo, Delarre’s bright, bushy-tailed fiddle lines and Cutting’s dynamic accordion style. They are, quite literally, having a bal!

Join in the party! Topette!!

This an Oxfolk Extra event, promoted in association with Topette!! It's a dance where you can schottishe, bourrée and mazurka to your heart's content, but not a called dance like Oxfolk's usual ceilidhs. There are no reserved seats and you can sit and listen, as well. If you have mobility issues please let us know and we'll make sure you get a good view.

Bar available.

Tickets are £13 full price or £9 for under 21s, plus a booking fee. Under 5s are free. They are available in advance, or on the door (space permitting):

Doors 4pm, dance starts 4.30. Kennington Village Centre, Kennington Road, Kennington,Oxford, OX1 5PG

Oxfolk is a long-running ceilidh series that is currently based in Kennington Village Hall, just outside the Oxford ring road and a few minutes from the A34. Dances run from October to May on the second Saturday of the month, although the April dance is usually run in conjunction with Folk Weekend: Oxford, so doesn't follow the normal pattern.
