Drawing the season to a gloriously energetic close is The Old Chapel Band. Expect some of the best bouncy, rousing, swinging English country dance music and tunes to keep you on your toes. The band has its roots in Oxfordshire, taking its name from the place in Eynsham where they used to rehearse.

Keith Holloway leads the band on melodeon - you'll know him from Random, New BandAnglo, Monty's Maggot and April's special band. He's probably served you at Oxfolk's bar at some point, too! Oxfolk's own Heather White is on tenor sax - also of Mouse & Trousers, the Titanic House Band (swing, blues and covers) formerly of Monty's Maggot and April's band. (Music is what she does when she's not organising Oxfolk's stewards.) Taz Tarry is well known for his swaggering southern English style fiddle playing and you'll know him from the English String Band and Monty's Maggot. Toby Goss, who graced us in April with his fine singing, does the same this month on clarinet. He also plays with Jack's Maggot and dances with Eynsham Morris.

Fee Lock joins us call the dances. Fee is known for clear and concise instructions and a deliciously dry sense of humour, all served up with a cut glass accent and much elegance and poise.

Tickets are available on the door: £10 adults, £7 concessions (12-17s, students, pensioners), £1 5-11s and free under 5s. See www.oxfolk.org.uk for details of family and group discounts. There is licensed bar with real ale, wine and soft drinks.

Doors open 7.30pm, dance starts 8pm and ends 11.30pm

Oxfolk

Oxfolk is a long-running ceilidh series that is currently based in Kennington Village Hall, just outside the Oxford ring road and a few minutes from the A34. Dances run from October to May on the second Saturday of the month, although the April dance is usually run in conjunction with Folk Weekend: Oxford, so doesn't follow the normal pattern.
