Climax Ceilidh Band

Climax Ceilidh Band have been making a mark with their unique smooth, sophisticated and rather sexy sound to crowds of happy dancers for over 15 years. It’s their particular and subtle blend of folk, jazz and blues that makes them so popular, and much of their music is their own (truly) original material. They are Richard Jones on piano and piano accordion, Chris Walshaw on English and French bagpipes, whistles and saxophone, Bruce Knapp on guitar and mandolin and Geoff Nicholls on drums and percussion.

Their albums “Come Dancing” and “Five Play” received great reviews, too:
“They create wonderful music, which constantly changes, divides, reforms, recedes and resurges.” Mike Greenwood, TAPLAS
“It is the rhythmic drive of the band that impresses me most – they never forget that they are first and foremost a ceilidh band.” Chris Pitt, England Dance & Song

If you can’t wait till Oxfolk, go to to hear their albums and other clips.

They are joined by local hero and caller Pete North. As well as being known for his calling, he’s smashing dancer and member of Adderbury Morris Men. Pete’s sprightly energy and considerable experience means that we’re in for a total treat.

During the interval, we will be entertained by Landeran, Oxford’s newest and shiniest shanty crew, singing work songs from the high seas.

Tickets are available on the door: £10 adults, £7 concessions (12-17s, students, pensioners), £1 5-11s and free under 5s. See for details of family and group discounts.

Oxfolk is a long-running ceilidh series that is currently based in Kennington Village Hall, just outside the Oxford ring road and a few minutes from the A34. Dances run from October to May on the second Saturday of the month, although the April dance is usually run in conjunction with Folk Weekend: Oxford, so doesn't follow the normal pattern.
