The Oakstone Trio
We are delighted that our first ceilidh for this season features Oxford-based band The Oakstone Trio on Sat 12th Oct, 7:30pm, at Kennington Village Centre near Oxford. They specialise in playing captivating, lively and lovely English folk tunes, often from the 17th and 18th centuries. Last year, they featured in The Dancing Master series of events at Bodleian Library, which featured the music and dance of the Playford collection, which you may have seen in Bridgerton, Poldark and adaptations of Jane Austin’s novels. This month you have a chance to dance some of those 17th - 19th Playford dances, as well as some modern ceilidh classics. The Oakstone Trio is Josh Newman on fiddle and viola, Mitch Keeley on guitar, and Louis Thurman on melodeon. Josh and Mitch also play in Irish band Moonaroon, Louis plays in The Emperors of the Moon, and all of them are well known on the local session circuit.
Calling the dances is cool, calm and highly knowledgeable Andrew Swaine, who was also involved in The Dancing Master project.
Non-gendered calls will be used.
Half-time entertainment comes from Dancing Spires, Oxford’s own rainbow coloured rapper sword team.
