Cat's Calling Academy Workshopwith expert callers Fee Lock, Barry Goodman, Andrew Swaine, Jo Freya and Cat Kelly
Cat's Calling Academy offers a unique opportunity for callers to develop and showcase their talents, as well as reflect on and hone their calling skills in a supportive environment, and receive input and feedback from some of the country's top ceilidh callers and musicians. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in calling, whether a complete beginner or more experienced.
"Excellent workshop, lots of information put across in a friendly, non-patronising and often amusing way."
"As an absolute beginner I am finding the course enormously helpful and informative."
Oxfolk will be hosting a weekend calling workshop Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th February 2014. The weekend will be run by Cat Kelly, with guest callers Fee Lock, Andrew Swaine, Barry Goodman, and Jo Freya. The workshops are open to anyone, regardless of experience or background, and will specifically focus on calling on the current English ceilidh and festival scene. Come for the whole weekend, and you can enjoy a Saturday night Euro-ceilidh with MoltenAmba and caller Jo Freya.
These workshops will feature discussions in small groups, a whole group open forum, and the chance to call a dance with live music from Richard Jones and Bruce Knapp (of MoltenAmba) and receive feedback from Cat and the guest callers. They will be held at Kennington Village Hall, Oxfolk’s usual home.
One to One Mentoring
After the Febuary workshop weekend, four of the participants will be invited to work closely with one of the experienced callers to prepare for calling with them at an Oxfolk ceilidh during the 2014-15 season. This is a truly unique opportunity to call at a well-established ceilidh series, with the support and help of an experienced caller.
Since it's launch in 2010 CCA has gained a reputation for introducing new callers to the English Ceilidh scene, with many previous participants going on to call at festivals and other national ceilidh series.
