Blackthorn: we take British traditional songs and tunes, and give them a twist. Songs about clapped-out nags, cross-dressing sailor girls, gruesome murders, and cheating philanderers are our ingredients. Our instruments are a heady cocktail of acoustic and electric: measures of bouzouki, fiddles, melodeon, and cello shaken (not stirred) with electric guitar, bass, and drums.

Although what we play could be loosely described as "folk rock", we draw from a wide experience across a variety of musical genres, from blues and Americana to classical. Over the last couple of years we have been plying our trade round the venues of Oxfordshire, including two turns at Bunkfest and an appearance at the Banbury Folk Club. Currently hard at work on our first album, we hope to emerge into the sunshine at some festivals in 2015. After all, we're nearly as big as Bellowhead, at least in terms of personnel. We hope to see you somewhere soon.

Ian Hall (electric guitar, vocals), Ian Clark (drums), Bill McKinnon (melodeon, vocals)
Linda Benton (cello), Pete Standing (bozouki, guitar, vocals), Sue Mallet (fiddle)
