Jo May Family Percussion Workshops - #LiveToYourLivingRoom
Wednesday 24 February 2021, 02:00pm - 03:45pm
Hits : 42

If lockdown is all getting a bit much and the novelty of homeschooling is wearing thin, why not join percussionist Jo May on Wellbeing Wednesday for some family fun! We have two fantastic percussion workshops for you, suitable for all family members to join in together.

Kitchen Percussion: 2-2.45pm

This workshop is specially designed for younger children and those with special needs and disabilities. Have a rummage through your kitchen cupboards and see what you can turn into a musical instrument! Jo will guide you through some simple rhythms and songs, and show you some of the more fancy percussion that she keeps in her kitchen.

Learn to play the spoons: 3-3.45pm

Yes that’s right – spoons! All you need is a pair of spoons from your cutlery drawer and you’re good to go; Jo will show you how to hold them, and how to create a few simple rhythmic riffs. You’ll be starting a family band in no time!

About Jo May:

Jo originally studied percussion at the Royal College of Music, and began her career as an orchestral player, working with groups such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra. A trip to Sidmouth Folk Festival sparked an enthusiasm for traditional music and a change of direction!
As a performer, Jo has been involved in many different bands and projects – these currently include Stepling, Intarsia, Token Women and a fantastic young composers’ project called Komposit.
As well as performing, Jo has had many years’ experience teaching a variety of percussion, both as a peripatetic teacher and a workshop leader. She has been involved in many different educational projects but is now mainly focusing on her Spoons Workshops.
