PIVA present "The Flower of all Cities" at the Swalcliffe Concerts.  21st October 7:30

The renaissance returns to Swalcliffe for the next Swalcliffe Concert for the world premiere if PIVA’s new show “Flower of all Cities”, a musical history tour of Elizabethan London, played on authentic recreations of period instruments.

PIVA take late 16th Century dance and ballad tunes and add their own innovative and diverse arrangements.  They play with consummate skill and make this wonderful music ring out in the 21st Century.  In this show, PIVA will play a mix of music from the period from the stately court through to the lively tavern and they will be bringing the city to life with stories and tales from the time

During the interval you will be able to meet the band and talk to them about their instruments and music.

“Like all good bands, PIVA need to be experienced live” – Paul James, Blowzabella

“If you have a chance to see PIVA, jump at it” – Voluntary Arts, Ireland

Since forming in 2002, PIVA have established themselves as one of the country’s leading early music groups and they play throughout the UK and across Europe.  Specialising in the popular dance and ballad music of the late renaissance, they’ve gained an excellent reputation for giving lively and entertaining shows. Playing on a wide range of period instruments such as hurdy gurdy and bagpipes, shawms and curtals, they are all multi-instrumentalists with backgrounds in renaissance, jazz, classical, folk and roots; Piva melds all this together to create music of the past played for today.
