The 'B*stard' English Session came about from the desire to have a local session that focused on English traditional music, but that was musically broad, inclusive and - above all - welcoming. Less a 'folk' session than a 'trad pop' one, the B.E.S. incorporates Morris tunes, Playford tunes, Music Hall, modern pop, performers' own material, and much more, all mangled together... and is certainly not restricted to English music - in fact, the name derives from the idea that England is a 'bastard' culture made up of many centuries of immigration, and is the better for it! It tends to be less popular with folk purists, but if you fancy a dose of what one of its members describes as 'scruffy egalitarianism' (only in Oxford!) then do stop by to play or to perform, and we'd be very happy to you!
